Google Marks India as the Next Territory for Manufacturing Pixel Gadgets
Google, the leading electronics and tech company, is ready to process its Pixel smartphone manufacturing in India. The development will take place at the Foxconn facility, which already exists in Tamil Nadu.
Google first announced its Pixel 8 smartphone manufacturing in the Asian country in 2023, but further updates about the timing and location were not confirmed. After an extensive meeting between the two parties, the tech company has committed to manufacturing smartphones and drones in the country’s southern state.
“Today, we see an even greater opportunity to make Pixel smartphones available to more people in India, and are very excited to announce our plan to manufacture Pixel smartphones in India. We intend to start with the Pixel 8 and partner with international and domestic manufacturers to produce Pixel smartphones locally. We expect these devices to start to roll out in 2024, joining India’s “Make in India” initiative.” the company’s official blog post announced.
India is becoming a tech hub with innovative approaches and industry-standard practices. The culturally rich land is already home to many big production plants like the iPhone by Apple and Samsung Electronics Co. assembly centers. It has become a development target for many tech firms looking to diversify functionality towards the East.
The country’s Industries Minister Rajaa and Foxconn executives recently visited the tech giant in California and showed interest in making advanced versions of the Pixel gadgets in Tamil Nadu. Google and Foxconn sealed the deal with a contract on Friday, 24 May 2024. Sources suggest that the manufacturing might also include other smart gadgets, initiating this calendar year.
Foxconn operates through two of its established units in India. One plant assembles Apple’s iPhones in Chennai, handling over 80% of the country’s manufacturing worth. The other Tamil Nadu facility is getting ready to manufacture Pixel products. The Southern state is already popular for leading the country’s mobile phone manufacturing sector.
The Tamil Nadu government issued a statement about Chief Minister MK Stalin’s meeting with Google officials in Chennai in the upcoming future.
