Trump Aide Hints at Kevin Rudd’s Future with “Time’s Up” Post on X
Dan Scavino, who works for Trump, then takes to social site X to make what could be interpreted as veiled references to what the fate of Australia’s Ambassador to the US, Kevin Rudd, might be under the new administration. Especially famous for his connection with Trump, Scavino added a GIF of sand pouring through an hourglass to Rudd’s message on the Trump victory. Such passionate perception of the hourglass in the social media culture is seen as a warning of ‘time’s up,’ some may ask whether the new administration wants to see… in the ambassadorial role.
Besides the fact that he actively participated in the Trump presidency, Scavino could also be another intimate ally of the new executive power. His post has garnered attention, especially since Rudd had some negative things to say about Trump in the past. Trump has been a target of Rudd’s disdain, with the Australian PM having previously described the American chief executive as “the most destructive president in history” and once referred to him as a “traitor to the West.” The newest video that has come out is Rudd calling him a “village idiot,” which puts further strain on the two men’s friendship as the other segments do.
Scavino, an assistant to the US presidential-elect, has re-twitted an announcement made by Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard on a meeting planned for Wednesday. It almost clears speculations about Rudd’s position in Washington. In an interview with UK’s Nigel Farage this year, Trump said that Rudd was nasty and that she ‘won’t be there long!’ While it is true that appointing ambassadors in Australia does not fall within the remit of a president-elect, Scavino’s tweet simply fuels the flame regarding Rudd’s position in Washington. However, Penny Wong, the Australian Foreign Minister, said that Rudd’s stance would not shift with the outcome of the US election.
At the same time, the Australian Opposition Leader Peter Dutton greeted Rudd’s work as an ambassador positively and added that he would like to construct a constructive cooperation with the Trump administration. However, the current pinnacle of CDA in Australia has suggested that if the diplomatic battle turns out to be a rough one, they may turn to their previous head of government, Scott Morrison, who enjoys a cordial working relationship with Trump and encourages the prosecution of diplomatic informal diplomacy.
With everything recently said and written about Australia’s attitude to the new American administration, Scavino’s tweet only added more attention to Rudd, saying, ‘It is going to be a rocky ride and a closely monitored interaction of the ambassador with the Trump team.’
